I had a handle on things in 1964 that was the year of the Civil Rights Act which began the long march to end the shameful scourge of our terrible treatment of people of color. Parents were respected even revered in fact anyone old enough to be your parent were answered by sir or mam. Most everyone lived with their father and mother. You could still raise a family without both parents needing to earn a salary. You could understand every word of pop songs and could dance cheek to cheek to most of them. You could use any of those words in “polite” company. The police were respected as were most authority figures. You could still disagree without being disagreeable. There were universally agreed definitions of decency and deviancy. You could think and mostly say what you wished. It was only your acts that were subject to disapproval.
When I was a teenager I didn’t know anyone who had “gone all the way”. If you were going steady you might “catch a feel” . Surely there were loose girls but we didn’t know of any. Girls were respected, defended, and catered to. I knew guys that said they knew someone who smoked dope but I didn’t.
I worked in an office with a couple of guys and 6 or 8 gals (you could call them that then). You could compliment them on their appearance or anything you found nice. You could be a little flirty even. They liked it.
There was ONE phone company and you had a directory with everyone’s phone number. Now only the Lord knows how many there are and you only know a phone number if someone tells you their’s.
AND THEN we began to see the intrusion of the thought police. The introduction of isms – feminism, racism, and on and on and on.
We discovered political correctness, truly an insidious disaster. It discarded the value of truth. Truth no longer matters. If someone doesn’t like what you say, you are damned even if what you say is true. Worse yet if they say they are offended you are double damned. There are a growing howling mass that loves to be offended. If you express an opinion that they do not share damnation follows. If you disagree you are a HATER.
What once was good became bad and what was bad became good. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (among the last of the Democrat moralists) said we were “defining deviancy down”. Hell, we’ve abolished the very concept of deviancy .
Our children have been taught for decades that they are the most important thing in the universe. If they wanted to do something/anything that was their right. Their body was their’s they could do whatever they wished. They were entitled. Their parents are thoughtless slugs that are destroying the earth. They need to be led by self appointed betters. America is the world’s problem. The only salvation is world government run be the educated better class.
The “media” no longer reports the news they make it up. They are not journalists they are opinion makers.
We’ve sunk pretty low but there’s no limit now to how far down we can go. Sheesh!
Inspired by Lewis Grizzard’s book ” I haven’t understood anything since 1962″ and shamelessly a paraphrase of the introduction
